Inland Hurricane

Friday was a nail-biter day! Starting about 11:00 a.m., we had bad storms rage through our area. Before it was all over the tornado sirens went off 3 times. I heard from a friend who had a scanner that the hospital and schools had been put on alert to take cover. I was at work by myself and I figured the best place for me was in the center of the building under my desk. The above picture is what I looked like when, to my surprise, there is a knock on the front door and it is a postal employee trying to get in to get my John Hancock on a piece of certified mail!!! What??? Do they not heed tornado warnings??? I know their motto, but they are still human!! (Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these carriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.) Anyway, I sheepishly came out from under my desk and let her in. I tried to explain, but she wasn't very talkative and I don't think she cared. :)

Fortunately, we were spared most of the brunt of the storm, but areas further south are still without power and sustained major damage. This storm is being called an inland hurricane. The winds were around 106 mph at one point. My thoughts and prayers are with those who sustained losses and damage.

We were on the road from FL when this storm was hitting and we did some praying for our girl in the Jr. High hallway and for our other girl hiding under her desk at work! ;) In spite of the gravity of the situation, we did have a chuckle over the picture, Chris! On Saturday we got to see all the storm damage firsthand. Rough stuff! Glad you were all safe!
