Today is my five-year wedding anniversary to a wonderful man, Charles Cox. This is a second chance at love for both of us and it’s been a wonderful journey. Our ceremony started at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2004. It was a beautiful day in so many ways. The weather was perfect (about 75 degrees) and not a cloud in the sky. What made it more beautiful was to have family and friends with us who had been along for the ride of what our lives had been up to that point. We were overwhelmed and so blessed!
My colors were pink and silver. To me those colors represented everything summery, girly and romantic that I wanted my wedding to be. My uncle Larry Blake and Charles' pastor Bro. Benson were our ministers for the ceremony. My sister was my matron of honor and her husband Dale was Charles' best man. Courtney was my junior bridesmaid and our cousin Jalen was Charles' junior groomsman. My brothers, Jared and Ryan were ushers. My cousin Kevin did my photography and our friend, Mark, recorded our video. My dad, who is a very talented and gifted musician played the prelude music. After our mothers were seated, "She's A Butterfly" by Martina McBride began playing. This was the song we chose for Courtney to walk down to. If you haven't heard it, listen to it in my playlist to the right. It was so perfect for her. During her walk down the aisle we played a slideshow of carefree girly poses of her. My cousin Jeanine played the traditional bridal march on the organ for me to walk down the aisle. Our couple song is "Me and You" by Kenny Chesney and my cousin Jonathan sang that for us. After some beautiful words by my uncle, my sister and brother sang "When Our Tomorrows" (turn to yesterdays) by Jonathan Moore. When the time came to light the unity candle, I surprised Charles by picking up a mic and singing "Without You" by Jonathan Moore. Something must have gotten in his eyes... they were red-rimmed. :) Following the prayer, my cousin Jonathan sang "My Pledge" recorded by Carman. For the recessional, we played "Feels Like Love" by Vince Gill. After the recessional, we went back to the front of the church, went over to my grandparents and greeted them and then formed a line in the front of the church to usher everyone out. It was a beautiful and moving ceremony and I'm thankful to all who were part of our special day.
Following the receiving line, we exited the foyer amid bubbles into our waiting limousine graciously donated by friends. Our reception was at the Gateway Center and it was the perfect place for a reception. The food and catering staff were top notch!! My friend Tracy made our wedding cakes. Ours had an acrylic bride & groom dancing on top with a light underneath it. We also had a cake made for Courtney in the shape of a butterfly.
Five years later, I still hold that day dear in my memories. The path of our lives have taken a few twists and turns since that blessed day, and I'm happy to say that through it all we continue to be committed to God and each other.
