Freshman Orientation

After a quick supper of $1 McChickens sitting in lawn chairs inside our new house, we got Courtney's closet doors put up. Some days it feels like we'll never be done, but we really are getting close. How many more days will I say that right? But it's coming together so nicely.

I forgot to blog last week about Courtney going to freshman orientation. I cannot believe my baby is going to high school. But the world keeps turning and time keeps ticking away. She said it was a little overwhelming. I think the principal made it worse than it had to be. He told them things like "you're not in preschool anymore people... this is high school...", "no one is going to help you... you'll be on your own..." Yeah right! I think someone must have given him a hard time when he was in school! :) Honestly, I know that high school isn't as easy as grade school because they're trying to prepare them for adult life, but c'mon give them a break... freshman orientation??!! Overall, it was a positive experience for her though. She needs 32 credits to graduate, but would like to try for 36 to help with college requirements. She also wants to take advantage of the dual credit courses at the high school that count toward college.

Another milestone for Courtney... they measured her today for her graduation gown for 8th grade. They said she is 5'8". I think her shoes gave her some added height because I believe she is only 5'6 1/2" or so. But who knows... they grow fast at this age! I remember my 8th grade graduation. At our school, we dressed in formals instead of caps and gowns. Mom made me a lovely lavender satin (or was it silk?) floor-length gown. Those were the days, but I'm even more happy to be enjoying this time in Courtney's life.

67 degrees here today! Woo hoo! A taste of spring was just what the doctor ordered after all of our snow lately!! It was a little windy, but I'll take it with temps like these.

I can't believe Courtney is old enough for HIGH SCHOOL!!! I couldn't be more proud of her though. She will do well in her transition. She's got enough of her mimi in her to make the adjustment with ease. Now, us, on the other hand...Let's just say mom had her work cut out with us and our rough adjustment to change! Hope things continue to go well with the house. Can't wait to come for a visit and crop and stamp all night!!

That principle sounds like a drill sergeant. Nice.
